Living in Japan

[Mobile phone]

A mobile phone is now one of the most important things for travelers to communicate with their friends and get tourism information.

There are two ways to get a mobile phone: rent or buy.

At the International airports, you can find some mobile phone rental companies and it’s easy to get a mobile phone.

This is the most simple and easiest but the fee is a little expensive.

Therefore, if you stay in Japan more than 1 month and make calls a lot, you’d better buy a prepaid mobile phone.

Softbank provides prepaid phones and they can be bought at Softbank shops.

The mobile phone itself is around 5000yen and basic fee is free. It’s really a good deal. Moreover, if you pay 300 yen,

you can send e-mails as many as you want!

I recommend this mobile phone if you stay in Japan less than 2 years because Japanese mobile phone companies requires you

to make a contract for 2 years. If you break this, you have to pay around 10000yen.

This system is applied for all the three main companies: Softbank, docomo, au.

If you stay in Japan for more than 2 years, you’d better make a contract. iPhone is provided only by Softbank and nowadays

Softbank is really popular among foreign people in Japan and students.

Docomo is the biggest company and au is the second biggest one.
